To hear that you will fail, “your painting is awful”, 
“you can't sing!” Or 

 “you should be Finding a  Real Job !” 

For most of us that can be rude and discouraging. 


To be uncertain if your best is enough and sustainable can cause you to wonder if what naysayers are saying is true. 


So, you start believing that you will be wasting your time and before you try it, you have already set your mind to have little or no effort in it. 

however...

"The truth is far from the lie and if we believe the lie it becomes our truth"
